Is it too late to prune grape vine?

Asked July 7, 2017, 11:34 AM EDT

Hi, I did some reading here on possible problems with my grape vines this year. From what I've read here it looks like the problem is a fungus rot problem most likely because I have never pruned my grapes and left all the dead foliage over winter. The whole vine and leaves now have a fungus problem. What I'm wondering is do I need to wait till winter to prune? Or can I do that now? I will most likely have to remove all the fruit and most of the leaves.

I believe that it would be better to wait until late winter/early spring when the vines are dormant. If you remove everything now they could die or shoot out a lot of new, undesirable growth. Here is a link to info from the Minnesota Grape Growers Assn. It is a bit detailed but gives specifics for dealing with different diseases along with photos to compare. I think following their info would be best. . here is the link to their website if you would like more info or would like to contact them.
