Bear scat?

Asked July 7, 2017, 3:04 AM EDT

Cabin John residents are concerned that a bear might be roaming in the community based on discovery of scat that resembles some pictures on the web. I've attached a photo (JPG file) that has circulated widely throughout Cabin John and nearby west Bethesda communities. If this isn't a question that Cooperative Extension can address, I wonder if you might refer it to other experts at the University. Many thanks!

This could be bear scat but it could also be from white-tailed deer.

We recommend that you contact the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to have them identify it for sure. If there is a bear roaming in the Cabin John area, they will want to know about it. Their contact information can be found at the following website.http://dnr.maryland.gov/wildlife/Pages/hunt_trap/bblivingwith.aspx
