Black spots on cherries

I have two cherry trees and some of the fruit have a little black spot on them. I am wondering if they are OK to eat or not.

The fruit would be safe to eat, but, depending on the organism, may not taste good. Without a photo, it would be hard for me to diagnose what is wrong. One possibility is cherry fruit fly:
