Invasive vine id

Asked June 29, 2017, 5:01 PM EDT

This plant is smothering several trees in our yard (which is very woodsy). Its bark is reddish and the tendrils are also red. It looks like kudzu to me. What do you think?

The plant is a wild grape vine. They can be very invasive and persistent. You can cut it back and dig up as much root as possible to try and control it. To eliminate it you may have to resort to an herbicide for vines. Check your local garden center for an herbicide that lists wild grape vine on the label and be sure to follow label directions.
