What's eating my milkweed?

Asked June 28, 2017, 8:32 AM EDT

I just returned from vacation and found many of this insect on my milkweed. What is it? Good or bad. I will hand pick if bad.

This looks like the larvae of the milkweed leaf beetle. It prefers swamp milkweed. If they are causing no damage, you can leave them be. If damaging the plant, you can handpick and drop into soapy water.

Thank you so much. I'll leave them for awhile and keep track of them. You are always helpful.
