splitting trunks

How much water does an aspen tree require or how to care for a distressed aspen tree? The trunks of our aspen are splitting and weeping. ..what to do?

Hello,

Aspen trees do best in well drained mountain soils. The distress could be coming from something called cytospora-canker. A fact sheet is attached.

As far as how often you need to water. It depends on size, where it is, how much rain is happening. Winter watering is helpful in preventing stress.
