upper limit is around 18 percent moisture. One thing to remember is that hand held moisture testers, for grass hay, can read 2.5 percent higher or lower than the actual moisture content. The reason is that they are calibrated for alfalfa and grass is not as accurate.

The lower limit is around 10-12 percent but not critical. Lower moisture contents are not an issue except that sometimes the stems are stiffer when too dry and not as palatable for livestock.
