Bushes that grow in backyard areas that get good sun but low and can get wet

Asked June 18, 2017, 10:23 PM EDT

I have an area in my backyard that is low lying and gets very wet during rainy periods but gets full sun. During rainy periods, it will get about 1-2" of standing water that will last for a day or two after the rains stop. I would like to plant some bushes that benefit wildlife. I live in Golden Valley, MN. Ideally, I would like them to get some privacy from them – maybe 6' high? and I would like them to provide food or cover for birds and small wildlife. Any suggestions? You could try viburnum. It will reach the size you want. Also consider alder, winterberry or willow. Here is a link to our publication on shoreline trees and shrubs. That often has wet soil. http://www.extension.umn.edu/environment/water/property-owners/shoreland-maintenance/valuing-your-sh...
