Mushrooms Growing in Pots

Asked June 17, 2017, 10:21 AM EDT

I have had a lot of mushrooms growing in several of my potted/container vegetables. I have never seen this before and was wondering how this may effect the vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers)? Is there an effect at all - negative or positive? The mushrooms vary in size but are a bit small with thin stems.

Mushrooms growing in your containers indicate that there is excess moisture. There really is no harm nor benefit to the mushrooms, in terms of the effect on growing vegetables. It simply indicates that there is an optimal moist environment for them to grow. Just be careful about overwatering your containers -- if the soil is too moist, this could lead to root rot. Make sure the containers are well draining.
