Apple Trees - losing leaves

Hi I have a crab apple tree in my yard that has plenty of blossoms in the spring but for the last two years around this time of year the leaves start to fall off. They are rusty brown spots on them. What can I do? Do you come out and inspect trees? Thanks, Tim McNeil 651.308.9951

You are seeing evidence of apple scab, a very common fungal disease of apples and crabapples. Read here:

If scab is a continuing problem, you can follow a fungicide spraying program, starting in the spring (it is too late now). Details are in the link above. But the most effective control is to plant resistant varieties and avoid susceptible varieties. Again, the link above gives lists.
