Lavender Soil Test

Asked June 14, 2017, 5:51 PM EDT

What type of soil test is needed in preparation for growing lavender? Routine: pH, NO3-N, ICP, K, Ca, Mg, Na and S? Or do I need to do an extended test that may include salinity, lime, Boron...?

I would go ahead and do the extended test for a few dollars more since you really need to know how saline the soil is and if boron is accumulated at plant toxic levels. A good pH for lavender would be somewhere between 6.5 to 6.9 (slightly acidic) and salinity levels below 1.60mmhos/cm. I do not know the boron tolerance of lavender but hopefully the lab report describes if boron would be limiting to lavender.
