Hydrangea Bush

Asked June 13, 2017, 3:18 PM EDT

Hello, We planted three Hydrangea bushes two years ago. Last year, the flowers didn't bloom very well, maybe four or five per bush. This year, as of today 6/13, not one flower has bloomed. I don't see any buds. The old dried stems from last year are still there. Should we have cut those in the fall? Can you tell me what I am missing and/or how to care for this bush, so it comes back with blooms yearly? Thanks, Michelle

It would be helpful to have more information. What variety are they? Are they in sun or shade or both? Hydrangea are heavy feeders. Have you fertilized? A slow release worked into the base of the plant (under the mulch) should help.
