Pattern for wisteria on top of pergola

Asked June 11, 2017, 9:47 PM EDT

I have a pergola off the back of my house over a deck, it's approximately 8 ft x 12 ft. I have two columns opposite the house that each have a wisteria plant growing up them. They have both now reached the top of the pergola, and I need to know what pattern I should train the wisteria to grown now on top. Do I train the vine to grow along the top of the pergola towards the house on top of each piece of wood (so parallel to boards), or across the boards perpendicular, or have them make an X or ? How do I best grow it to fill in the entire pergola. Thanks!

It looks as though the vines are both on the same side. If you can train them toward the middle of their sections and then the house, they should send out side shoots which will eventually intertwine.
