ground cover request

A friend has requested that i help him with a situation. He has a house in Fire Island and woiuld like to plant something that will provide a ground cover for his front yard.
Conditions:
Sandy soil
Full sun
Requirements:
low maintenance
No flower required
Just something to cover
Hope to be able to use seed broadcast, if not will use plants

Hi John – There are a number of groundcovers that will work in this situation, although most of them cannot be broadcast as seed. Take a look first at this NYBG guide on coastal gardening and its list of recommended groundcovers: http://libguides.nybg.org/coastalgardening
