Saginaw County Michigan chicken manure nitrogen fertilizer

Chicken manure contains about 4.5% nitrogen. You need to divide the amount of "actual nitrogen" that you need by the decimal percentage in the fertilizer formulation to find out how much of that particular product that you need.

3 lb actual N needed / 0.045 N in product = 66.67 lb product
4 lb actual N needed / 0.045 N in product = 88.89 lb product

If you decide to use a different nitrogen source, substitute the percentage in that equation. So a source with 20% nitrogen would be...

3 lb actual N needed / 0.20 N in product = 15 lb product
4 lb actual N needed / 0.20 N in product = 20 lb product
