Meat thawed in freezer 48 hours ok?
Our freezer quit and we didn't notice it for about 48 hours. Is the hamburger ok to eat if cooked up and then put back in the freezer? Is the pork ok to eat after cooking in crockpot and re-freezing? Also, we had a large ham that thawed. Is it safe to re-freeze the ham without cooking? Thank you for your reply.
Do you know how warm it got in your freezer?
If the meat still has ice crystals in the packages, it indicates that they have not reached refigerator temperatures (maximum 45'F) and could be refrozen without cooking. They will be more dry and maybe a little more tough when they thaw for use the second time. Be sure to cook them fully when you do cook them.
If the meat has been above 45'F for more than a 2-3 hours, there could be enough bacterial growth that cooking may not make it safe.
Hopefully the temperatures stayed coo enough inside the freezer until you found it.
