plants to grow under ponderosa pine

Asked June 2, 2017, 8:52 AM EDT

I have about a dozen 12-16" diameter Ponderosa Pines in my yard. Is there a xeriscape type plant that can do well where the pine needles fall?

Thank you for your question. I cannot provide names of specific plants because I do not know what effect you want to achieve and also specifics about the landscape (amount of light, supplemental irrigation, etc.). Below is a link to detailed information from the University of Minnesota that describes how to correctly plant under trees. Also, I am providing the link to the Colorado Springs Utilities Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. I suggest you visit this garden and look the various plant possibilities. After determining which plants you like, you should then research each plant to determine if it will do well in your landscape.
