Northern Lights roses and also creeping charlie

Asked May 30, 2017, 4:16 PM EDT

1. I have been looking to buy the Sven and Ole roses in the Northern Lights series developed by the U of MN. Can not find who sells them. Can you tell me where or from whom I can buy plants? 2. What are the pros and cons of creeping charlie in lawns? Thank you.

You can ask your local garden center to see if they can order the Sven and Ole roses for you. I did also find a mail order company that carries them: https://www.northlandrosarium.com Regarding creeping Charlie, the pros are that it works well as a ground cover, especially in the shade. It was actually brought to North America for this purpose. It also provides early spring flowers for pollinators which is beneficial. The cons are that it is aggressive and can spread and cover more than what many people desire and crowd out grass in areas especially where it is growing poorly. http://blog-yard-garden-news.extension.umn.edu/2016/04/weed-management-creeping-charlie.html

Thank you. I had called several garden stores before writing, but had not thought to ask if they could order rose plants for me. Regarding Creeping Charlie, I shall endeavor to encourage half my neighbors, those bordering lawns with runaway creeping charlie, to think on the bright side.
