My wife keeps asking me what this tree is in the woods. Can you help identify? THX

Based on the general leaf shape, it looks like it may be a tuliptree or yellow poplar. Look for alternate leaves on the branch - alternate means that where the leaves connect with the branch, they are not directly opposite of another leaf, whereas opposite are. One of the key features of tuliptrees is that they produce a green-yellow flower with an orange base that bloom in early summer.
