Lemongrass and Citronella plants

Asked May 27, 2017, 11:11 AM EDT

Hello, I'm researching plants to repel mosquitoes. Do the roots and leaves of lemongrass and citronella plants contain the same or similar compounds as lemon, lime, orange, tangerine, and grapefruit plant roots? is there a known cross-reaction to these plants or their roots for someone who has an allergy to citrus fruits? Should physical contact with these plants be avoided for someone who has a citrus allergy? If yes, are there other plants that are safe to grow?
