Chinese lanterns

Asked May 19, 2017, 2:51 PM EDT

I've have Chinese Lanterns for about three years and this year they've tripled! I'm wondering how to get rid of them? Can I just cut them at the base of the stem or will that create a stronger root? Do I need to dig them up completely?! Thanks for your time!

You'll want to dig up an unwanted plants. These also produce seed so you' want to cut these back in the fall and clean up all dropped fruit. You may also want to apply a preemergent herbicide next spring to deter any seeds from germinating.
