American Elm

Asked May 16, 2017, 1:18 PM EDT

We have an American Elm ( Damascus area)that we planted over 10 years ago ( we have a certificate and edalluon from the American Elm Institute). The tree is huge! We are not sure whether or how to prune it. The trunk has grown to where it splits almost in two. We are afraid of it splitting entirely with the weight of its limbs and we want to protect it. Do you have any suggestions?

The best recommendation would be to contact several certified arborists for an onsite diagnosis regarding the health of the tree and the best way to proceed
