Organic Bug Killer

Asked May 13, 2017, 10:58 AM EDT

Hello -- I recently read about using dawn dish soap with water for aphids/squash beetles control in a vegetable garden. Is this truly organic or is there a better method? I realize picking them off is best but I have a big yard and need a time saver. Thanks,

We do not recommend home remedies such as Dawn as the products can be phytotoxic to the foliage. Make sure the products you use are formulated for plants, the pest is listed on the label, and you follow label directions.

You will have to do some research on the vegetables that you are growing and become familiar with the pests and diseases and regularly monitor your plants. Take a look at our Vegetable Profiles and Common Problems for each crop that you are growing. http://extension.umd.edu/growit/vegetable
