Akibono cherry tree leave damage

Sudden, serious problem with leaf damage on akibono cherry tree. We live north of Lewisburg, near Peavy Arboretum. Tree looks "moth-eaten"! It flowered beautifully. Tree is about 12 years old. This is first time we've seen severe leaf damage. I'd appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

We have had weather very favorable for two major fungal problems on Prunus sp. including brown rot blossom blight and shothole. Shothole will look a lot like insect feeding but is not. Read more about it here:
