Cherry tree issue

Asked May 8, 2017, 10:21 PM EDT

Hi, I am hoping you can help me identify what is wrong with our cherry tree. It had this malady last year and dropped leaves all summer long. It looks like it is on the same path this year. Is this treatable? Please help!

I believe that this is caused by a virus named necrotic rusty mottle. The only way to know if this is a virus, or another disease, is to send leaves to the disease lab at OSU and ask them to identify the disease. This is expensive, but if you want to do this, contact your local Extension office and ask them to assist you. Here is a link that will provide more information about this disease. PNWhandbook.org and search for cherry necrotic rusty mottle.
