lawn maintenance & reseeding

Asked May 2, 2017, 1:19 PM EDT

I'm wondering what is the best routine for weeding and feeding my lawn now given it's already May. I have patches that need reseeding. What is the best grass seed for this area? Thank you.

Hello, Thanks for your question. The best time to seed in spring is mid-February through March. If you seed now it will be very difficult to get well established due to the heat and it will have to be watered regularly. The best option, if you can wait, is to seed in mid-August through September. The best grass for Kentucky is turf-type tall fescue. Please see our home lawns page for more information on reseeding, weed control and much more: http://www.uky.edu/Ag/ukturf/lawns.html.
