Rose of sharon bush

Asked May 1, 2017, 12:21 PM EDT

My dog some scraped the bard of my rose of sharon bush, it is now wilted and turning brown. I pulled the bark up and put a bread tie around it, injust planted then last year. Should I trim it down? Also if I trim it does it will be to the ground, will it grow back up?

Good afternoon,

The damage to your plant is pretty severe. i can't imagine that plant healing quickly enough this growing season. to reduce any further stress on the plant, i would suggest pruning to the soil line and see if the plant will send up new growth. i would also deter your dog from the plant by using a simple tomato stake or other fencing to avoid any further damage. if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to call me at the the office. 859.572.2600
