Ground Skink on my 2nd floor deck?

Asked April 26, 2017, 11:02 AM EDT

This little guy is hanging out on my 2nd story deck among my flower pots. Is this a ground skink? He's been up here at least a month. I'd love for him to stay around - what should I do to make him feel at home??

Wanted to let you know that I am currently working with our University of Kentucky Wildlife Specialist on this matter. We will have an answer for you soon.

That appears to be a broadheaded skink, one of our 5 species in Kentucky. They prefer forested habitat. Leaf litter on the ground is also believed to be a habitat structure they prefer.
