Spruce, Balsam or Colorado Blue Spruce?
I have a newly established lot with landscaping that includes Black hills Spruce and Balsam, and love both. I want one more, but have been avoiding Colorado Blue Spruce because of past experience with it losing lower branches. Do you recommend avoiding Colorado Blue Spruce here in MN? I see so many sold locally.
Anoka County Minnesota
Colorado Blue Spruce are not adapted to MN.. Black Hills Spruce is a much better choice. Colorado Blue Spruce are sold here because people like the color and they are unaware that they last about 20 years until they begin to show signs of stress and develop diseases that are fostered by the stress of summers that are too hot and humid, irregular watering, and winters without snow cover. Colorado Blue Spruce do best in Colorado.
