What is the best type of grass seed to use when reseeding a lawn that is mostly shaded? I had the soil tested and nothing needs to be added.

Crawford County Ohio

There are several types of seed that you can use that are more shade tolerant. Those include Fescue seeds, some Bluegrass (Glade, Nugget, Warrens A-34). If the area is shaded due to trees its best to seed in the fall so seedlings can establish before trees leaf out. Frequently rake the leaves from under the trees as well so they do not suffocate the plants. Once you have the grass established mow it higher than you would grass in full sun. It is also helpful to water and fertilize the grass in shaded areas more often.
