Pond alga or weed

In my irrigation pond I have a filamentous growth. How do I identify and eliminate it?

Well, without a pic, one can't be sure. But it sounds like algae. You can counter that with barley or wheat straw (barley is better). Spread it on the pond and wait a couple weeks. Trouble with that idea is the labor to clean up the mess. There are numerous chemicals online you can look-up, but if you have fish, they can be used at certain times and at certain levels. OSU has a managing Woodland Ponds: A Field Guide pub that has a section on maintenance. Call your local extension agent and I would guess they'll have a couple in their office. If not, they'll give you the address on campus to order one if you so desire. So there you go. If you'd like to send apic...fire away and we'll see what's cooking.
