Crop to plant

Asked April 16, 2017, 5:09 PM EDT

I'd like to know which crop could make more sense (produce higher income and is good for the environment) to plant in a small farm (5 acres) in Howard Co., Maryland. Thank you.

We only answer questions for backyard growers, not commercial. For help with that, you'll want to contact an agricultural agent in your county. Many counties share agents. Here is the info on Howard County:

The answer was not what I expected.

Extension is heavily invested in helping small farmers. There are many opportunites and methods available to small farmers growing income producing crops that are not appropriate for the casual or recreational backyard gardener. This office specializes in helping backyard gardeners, but we hope you will contact your local Extension office and get guidance on what crops would be best for you.
