Squirrels destroying tulips and other bulbs

Asked April 15, 2017, 7:46 AM EDT

I have done everything wrong over the years but it was fun - planting bulbs singly, not fertilizing them so they don't split and bloom anymore. But this year I had 2 tulips start to bloom and the next day the squirrels had chopped off the blooms and left them in pieces. Should I give up and start loving squirrels or can I save my flowers next year? Thank you.

Squirrels like tulips. All you can do is protect the plants or plant bulbs that squirrels do not like to eat. Look at our publication on Nuisance Wildlife for some options page 3 http://extension.umd.edu/sites/extension.umd.edu/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/HG90%20Dea...
