corn flour

Asked April 12, 2017, 12:10 PM EDT

Will corn flour inhibit the germination of seeds - especially FLANDERS POPPIES????? It is ideal for mixing with the seed to plant. Hope it is not the same as corn gluten for lawns.

I am not familiar with corn flour so I do not know if it will affect seed germination. Corn gluten was originally marketed as a weed inhibitor; however, research has shown that it is ineffective. Some gardeners now use corn gluten as a fertilizer. Penn State Extension does not recommend using corn gluten because it is not labeled for use as either a fertilizer or pre-emergent herbicide.
