Best roses.

I now have the opportunity to plant roses in my front yard because a large tree that has shaded the area has been removed. I live in the northwest part of Baltimore city just north of the Pimlico Race Track. I wish to plant roses for the first time. What are most disease resistant types to plant. The current roses in another part of the yard gets blight and rust. What would you sugget? I have been told that knock out are good.

Roses are difficult to grow in our area due to disease and some insect pests. http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/black-spot-roses-shrubs
This is not our area of expertise. It may be helpful to contact a Consulting Rosarian. This service is provided by the American Rose Society providing information on rose care, selection, varieties, etc.

Take a look at our article on knockout roses. They can be susceptible to the same insect pests as hybrid tea roses as well as fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and rose rosette (caused by a virus). http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/rose-rosette-shrub
