Large dinner plate tuber

I have a large dinner plate dahlia tuber the size of a large sweet potato. Can I cut it in half? Or leave and plant whole

Thank you for the question. You should plant the entire tuber. In order for the tuber to grow you need to plant it with the part of the crown that has a bud. If you cut it in half, half will have the bud, the other half won't and will die, and you will have a tuber with only half the energy. Read this publication to learn more:
