Landscaping Near Your Foundation

Asked March 29, 2017, 3:31 PM EDT

I have a home built in 1900 that sits about 10 feet away from the neighboring house. The side "yard" this creates is completely shaded and mostly grows weeds. I would like to dig out the weeds, lay a weed barrier, and install a simple rock garden with medium and large natural stones. There would be shade-loving plants intermixed with the rocks. Due to the limited space, I'd have to put this right up against the foundation of the house. Will this damage the foundation over time? As long as the land is sloped away from the house, would there be any other issues to consider?
