This year for the first time I'm seeing some sort of fungus growing in my front lawn. Can you tell me what kind of fungus it is and whether it's harmful or if it's an indication of some unhealthy condition. You'll see by one of the photos I'm attaching that these growths are near a root of an old maple tree. Thank you for your help.

This looks like a type of wood decay fungi that grows on organic matter like old tree roots. This is normal and is not an indication of an unhealthy condition.
No chemical control is necessary. Knock over and scoop into the trash.
