Hi, Can you please tell me the best time to trim an American Elm? If the answer is on your website I have not been able to find it. Is it too late this spring? Thanks, Jeff Lohaus 612-805-8815

The current thinking is elms can be pruned anytime because the dutch elm beetle is not attracted to wounds. Other arborists believe that the risk of other diseases exists so it is best to prune when the tree is dormant. Elms in MN in the Metro and southern MN have broken dormancy. It is not the best time to prune but better to prune now than later in the season.
