Sugar Maple Pruning

Asked March 28, 2017, 1:05 PM EDT

We have some fairly young (7-10 years old) sugar maples in our yard. They need to be thinned out. When is a good time to prune a sugar maple?

Thank you

The best time to trim trees is early spring, March to early April. Trimming early in the year minimizes tree sap flow, which keeps insects and possible harm to a minimum. Below is a link to a great NDSU publication that goes into more detail of when and how to prune your trees.
