Hosta and astilbe transplanting

Asked March 27, 2017, 3:30 PM EDT

My hostas need to be moved. They are just peeking up through the ground. When is the soonest that I should try to move them? Also, the astilbe needs to be divided. No growth yet (just the dead fronds from last year). When is the earliest that I can divide them? Any special considerations for these two kinds of plants (I am a real rookie!!). Thanks for your time and any advice you can give me! Donna

Now that you can see the hostas peeking, it;s a great time to divide. You can do it anytime now as long as the soil is not too wet.
Dividing of astilbes can be done in spring or fall, so if you can tell from last years fronds where to dig, you can do it now. If not sure, just wait til they sprout.
