fungus fly control

Asked March 20, 2017, 9:11 PM EDT

I have a fungus fly problem. I grow, or try to grow all my pepper and tomato starter plants in the house. My plants are being eaten by fungus gnat larvae. I know that BTI will kill the larvae but all I have to work with is mosquito dunks. I put them in my watering cans and hope for the best but have had to microwave lots of baby plants because of a state of suspended animation and very little roots. Others MUST have this problem also. Please give a suggestion. Thanks! Ellen McConnell fiveights@windstream.net

See the fact sheet at http://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/ENT-59 for suggested control methods. The bT found in your mosquito dunks may not work because the different bT strains are very specific in what they will control. The article at http://extension.oregonstate.edu/gardening/do-your-potted-plants-have-fungus-gnats-0 also gives good information.
