Fall Potato Planting

Asked March 6, 2017, 2:50 PM EST

I would like to plant a second crop of potatoes for a fall harvest. Last fall I could not find sets of any kind anywhere. Can sets that are available now, if refrigerated until fall planting, be used? What do you suggest?

That is a good question and do not have an answer. We suggest that you experiment with refrigerating until planting in June. See our planting calendar.

Potatoes planted in the spring, will not be mature enough for fall planting.
You may be able to find seed potatoes in June. You can look online for seed companies or sources that sell potatoes only such as Wood Prairie Farm in Maine among others.
