The potential age any tree lives is based on the site and species. Oaks are often at their best on well drained loamy soil, with adequate availability of water. White oak can live 300 plus years on the right site according to Barnes and Wagner in their book on Michigan Trees. Most other oaks can live up 200 to 300 years on good sites. Northern pin oak is typically one of the shorter lived oaks. In a landscape conditions life span is usually less do to compaction, mechanical damage and poor soil condition.
