Creeping phlox ground cover

Asked March 5, 2017, 1:59 PM EST

Will the creeping phlox kill out my beautiful peony bushes and the tubers if I let the phlox cover the bed. This is so important to me I use the low phlox to help with weed control. However isn't crawling into the peony bushes will it coke out the tubers. I have a lot of money in the peonies. Help. Please

Peonies are sensitive to tuber depth in the soil as well as competition for nutrients. Over time the creeping phlox would build up organic matter on top of the tuber as well as deplete needed nutrients causing your peonies to decline.
