Paw Paw Seed Planting

Asked March 4, 2017, 10:01 AM EST

Friends at Denison U in Ohio have given me some Paw Paw seeds...hoping to establish a patch in my partially wooded yard in Baltimore County. The seeds have been in my fridge since November, any suggestions re optimal planting time? Deer in my area eat anything short of barbed wire...assume I need to attempt to deer-proof my seedlings? Many thanks!

Look at the attached publication fromVirginia Tech on propagation and culture.
If deer are hungry enough they may sample them and the deer may rub the young trunks. It would be a good idea to protect with tree guards until the trees are more mature. If the trees thrive, you will have to protect the fruit.
