Dispose of horse manure

Asked March 3, 2017, 12:59 AM EST

I heard about a company that bagged and sold composted horse manure as fertilizer for gardens. What a good idea. Now I find that I have a couple year old horse manure pile and don't know how to get rid of it. Suggestions PLEASE. ds

It's not uncommon for nurseries to collect horse manure and distribute it as garden fertilizer. It would be useful to call around to the nurseries in your area to see if any of them receive manure.

Additionally, both the Marion County and the Polk County Soil and Water Conservation Districts have free manure exchange programs. Essentially, you're put on a list so that gardeners and farmers looking for manure can find you.
