Epsom Salts in the garden

Do you recommend using epsom salts in a Portland area yard and garden?

Epsom salts supply both calcium and magnesium to soils. If your vegetables or ornamentals have shown deficiency signs or if a soil test has shown that either of these elements are in short supply, then Epsom salts is a fine material for adding to the garden.

Calcium and magnesium can also be supplied by incorporating dolomite lime. However lime will raise the pH of the soil (make it sweeter or more alkaline). If your soil is too acid, using lime might accomplish both raising the pH and adding two needed elements.
