Should i consider building a raised layers shelter or unraised
Outside United States
Lots of factors go into this decision such as construction cost, weather, predators, and disease pressure in your location. Generally a raised shelter reduces problems with disease as the birds are separated from the droppings and soil contact greatly reducing the likely hood of internal parasites and other enteric diseases. Eggs are typically cleaner and easier to find and predators can be easier to control. On the down side construction cost are typically higher and you have to provide all the feed to the birds when they do not have access to forage. You will have to consider these factors and assign a value to determine what is likely to be most cost beneficial in your situation and area.
