Cost effectiveness of treating ash trees for Emerald Ash Borers

Asked January 26, 2017, 10:24 AM EST

I am the Chairman of the Grounds committee at the Townhome Villages of Eagle Lake. We have between 200-300 mature ash trees on our grounds and have just been informed by Maple Grove that the Emerald Ash Borer has been discovered within the cities boundaries. A Tree Service sent us an offer to inject these trees for $300 each once every two years. We also know that having them removed will cost about $1000 for each tree. Can you give us your opinion on whether to inject or to pray and wait for removal costs?

We cannot make that decision for you as there are many factors involved. Be aware that even if treated trees may be lost since it depends how damaged the trees are and if they are stressed in any way. St Paul has made the decision to remove theirs except for several used for control and test. For more information check
